Ultra Fine Garden Design Persian silk Qum Carpet (approx 900 kpsi) bearing the signature: "Baft Qum Afshari". This carpet has a fine silk pile with unusual predominance of green and gold colours on a silk base; it has an almost magical quality to it in that the colour difference from one end to the other is enormous.

Qum is located towards the centre of Iran, on the edge of the Dasht-i-Kavir. Such is the arid nature of Qum's surroundings, it is hardly surprising that they weave gardens in their carpets.

The Garden design is a panel design in which each panel represents a garden; each panel is separated by a border that symbolizes the irrigation channels of the Persian garden. This panel design has 266 gardens.

The Garden Design was perhaps influenced by the 9 gardens that were the setting for Timur's Imperial tent. As Qum is one of Iran's Holy cities one of the 9 gardens in this example forms the shape of a Mihrab.
