Nomadic Persian Rugs Qashquli

The Qashquli are a sub-section of the Qashqai tribe. The Qashquli are a tribal people that have tradition of weaving rugs of some repute. Once nomadic, Qashquli rugs are woven in villages within the vicinity of Firuzabad, just south of Shiraz within the Fars province.

The production of Qashquli rugs is small, with weavers producing exceptionally fine quality Qashquli rugs in small sizes. These Qashquli rugs represent the finest rugs of the Fars province and even within the bazaar of Shiraz (Shiraz being the capital of the Fars) Qashquli rugs are extremely hard to find.

Qashquli rugs are finely knotted employing the Persian (asymmetrical) knot, sometimes on an ivory coloured woollen warp, although (these days) usually on a cotton warp. The designs favoured by the Qashquli are: Millefleurs, Herati, as well as other traditional geometric Fars designs.
