Nomadic Persian Rugs Yallameh

Yallameh is a tribe that has settled into villages just south of Isfahan. Although, Yallameh is very much a village production (the best of which are produced in the village of Aliabad), the tribe maintains the nomadic characteristics in its manufacture. These rugs and carpets are considered to be amongst the finest nomadic weaves of Persia.

Yallameh rugs are woven on a flat loom with a woollen warp and weft using a double weft construction. The dyes used are usually natural with extensive use of blue, terracotta and cream. Yallameh rugs are woven with distinctive geometric diamond shaped lozenges with “latch-hook” edges.

Yallameh rugs are, however, by the context of Persian rugs, a light wearing quality due to the luxurious, soft wool from which they are made.
