| Persian Gabbeh Lion Rug 1.40x0.75m |
|
A charming Persian Lion Rug woven in southern Persia in the Fars province. Lion motifs have been symbolically significant to Persians since ancient times, indeed there are numerous bas-reliefs of Lions at the ruins of Persepolis (also located in the Fars province). To tribal people the Lion may be interpreted as a symbol of bravery and of courage. This Gabbeh rug has a woollen pile woven on a woollen warp and weft. The Lion is set against a plain terracotta ground with a cream border with a simple floral meandering pattern.
