| Tekke Ensi 1.59x1.27m |
|
Antique Tekke Turkoman Ensi woven in the first quarter of the 20th century.
The term "Ensi" refers to a type of rug that was traditionally hung in the door way of the Turkoman tent, and are usually around 1.52x1.22m in size.
Ensis are typically assymmetrical in design and because of that are often mistaken for prayer rugs. Indeed the design of the Tekke tribe Ensi possibly does little to clarify this confusion in that one of the distinguishing features of Tekke Ensi's design is the mihrab (or archway) towards the top of the rug.
