Title: Afghan Khorjin Runner
Size: 3.11×0.81m / 10’3″x2’8″
Material: Wool pile, cotton warp and weft. It has beautifully finished fringes: plaited and wrapped.
Colours and Design: Multi-colour. Geometric, all over theme of stripes inspired by ancient saddle-bag (Khorjin) patterns.
This Carpet is from a very small production in Afghanistan, handcrafted by highly skilled weavers.
The pile is handknotted and made from hand-spun wool. The dyes are natural. It is a wonderful hard wearing quality.
A “Khorjin” is a double bag or saddle-bag.
The designs found in the Khorjin range are inspired by the patterns from ancient tribal bags. Sometimes this takes the form of a design on either end of the rug with a dividing section of stripes – on an actual saddle-bag this striped area would be made from kilim/flat weave, these rugs however are all pile.
