Persian Belouch Rugs are woven south of Mashad, North East Persia/Iran.
In appearance Persian Belouch Rugs resemble the rugs of Afghanistan. Belouch Rugs are made on both sides of the border.
Typically the Persian Belouch is finer than the Afghan Belouch Rug. The warp thread used is sometimes wool, but more frequently it is made of cotton. Often the proportion of the Persian Belouch Rug is a distinguishing feature as the size produced is narrow relative to its length, i.e. 2.00×1.00m/6’6″x3’3″ (this size is known in the trade as Mossul).
Each one is unique; these are truly fascinating rugs!
