Origin: Khorassan Province, North East Persia (Iran).
Material: Wool pile, wool warp.
Colours and Design: Red field with beige, dark blue, blue-grey and orange. Geometric, all-over design of “dyrnak” guls – an emblem of the Yamoud tribe.
Condition/Age: Full pile. 15-30 years old.
Turkomans, namely Tekke and Yamoud, have inhabited parts of north east Iran for centuries.
Turkoman Carpets from Iran are hand-knotted onto horizontal looms. The pile, warp and weft is of wool. The carpets are made in the home rather than a factory/workshop setting.
