Title: Vintage Azilal Rug
Size: 2.17×1.18m / 7’1″x3’11″
Material: Wool pile, cotton warp (fringe at one end, the other end is flat woven) and cotton wefts.
Colours and Design: Orange with beige, blue, red and black. A enchantingly quirky pattern – like a piece of modern art for your floor! A real one-of-a-kind rug!
Condition/Age: Low pile accentuated by the weaving technique of multiple weft threads after each single row of knots. There are blemishes to the pile (detailed in images 5, 6, & 7). Probably in the region of 20-30 years old.
Azilal Rugs are traditionally handmade rugs made by Berber women in the Azilal region in remote rural parts of the High Atlas Mountains. These rugs were made for the weaver’s own domestic use.
Azilal Rugs are hand-knotted from wool. The style of Azilal rugs is colourful, whimsical and informal. Each Azilal Rug is a one-of-a-kind piece. The structure of these rugs is interesting: rows of single knots with multiple weft threads in between each row of knots.
Berber Rugs are light wearing; ideal for Bedroom and Sitting Room locations. Not suitable for hard wear areas. Consider using an Underlay for use on hard floors (i.e. wood, tiles, etc).
