A “chanteh” is a type of small tribal bag often used by women for storing personal items such as jewellery or money. Typically these have wool pile on one side and the back of the bag is flat-woven. Occasionally this type of bag is entirely flat-woven, i.e. all kilim.
This chanteh bag has been filled with a polyester hollow-fibre, non-allergenic pad and sealed (hand-sewn). The result is a delightful one-of-a-kind cushion.
This is a fantastic, functional way of using these unique nomadic weavings at home.
Afghan Belouch Rugs are woven within the vicinity of Herat, West Afghanistan. In appearance Belouch Rugs often have a rather dark appearance. However, the designs produced are numerous and characterful.
Indeed, each one is unique; these are truly fascinating items!
Belouch weavers are prolific makers of Prayer Rugs, khorjins (saddle-bags), namakdans (salts bags), chanteh (small bags) and other tribal trappings.
