Technique: Hand-knotted.
Material: Wool pile, knotted onto cotton warps.
Colours and Design: Red with midnight blue, navy and cream colours. Geometric, with charming all over panel design.
Condition/Age: Full pile. Approx 20 years old.

Luri Rugs are creative, interesting and enchanting rugs. Rugs of character and individuality.
The Luri are a fairly scattered people, residing from South West Persia – west and north of the Qashqai territories, and some as far north as Hamadan.
Like many Persian tribes, these days the Luri are mostly settled into villages and towns.
The Luri tribe has a colourful history and had a ferocious reputation and a penchant for banditry.
The ascension of Reza Shah Pahlavi in 1925 was to have profound effects on the tribal/nomadic peoples of Persia, especially the Luri. Reza Shah embarked on a policy of creating a modern state. As a consequence: nomadic tribes were disarmed and forcibly settled, some exiled from their indigenous lands, tribal leaders were (sinisterly) removed, and the use of the traditional black tent was prohibited.
However, the tribal culture lives on in the production of Luri Rugs. Whilst the majority of the Luri rugs are produced in villages, the bold, strong geometric designs are distinctively tribal in inspiration and no two are the same.
From a design viewpoint Luri Rugs seem to have less in the way of quirky, small filler motifs than say, for example Qashqai rugs, with preferences for large clear expanses of colour.
Luri Rugs have a woollen pile; warp threads usually made of cotton, occasionally wool, and the weft threads are at times dyed red.
