Origin: Morocco.

Technique: Hand-knotted.

Material: Recycled fabric pile knotted onto cotton warps.

Colours and Design:

A spellbinding diamond and lovely flat weave ends and fringes offer an interesting finish added to the black-and-white charming chequerboard border on the width.
The vestiges of traditional chequerboard design is continued but turning from the black and white into glorious technicolour with enticing blues, teals, purples and mauves in a luscious in purple-sea green on the length border.

It gives a counterbalance to the superb block of textured richness of the field in reds, pinks, roses and fuchsias with tinges of watermelon softness, and crushed raspberries that blush … The field of recycled fabric weave overlapping resemble a sea of petals.

The powerful extending old primrose yellow diamond’s outline is punctuated with stamps of charcoal coloured definition. This dramatic spacious motif contains teal coloured six-pointed stars and azure blue diamonds and it’s interesting softness of creams, rose yellows, ochres and creamy mustards act like the soft glow of Moroccan morning sunlight into your home.

Condition/Age: It’s in the region of 15/20 years old.

Interestingly, Boucherouite rugs have only really been in existence since the mid-Twentieth century from times when there was little or no access to wool – and are only recently beginning to become appreciated for their artistic merits.

The word “Boucherouite” comes from the Arabic word for “scraps”. These fascinating rugs are made from recycled fabrics. Thousands of scraps of fabric materials such as recycled clothes, cotton, nylon, plain or patterned and wool are hand-knotted/woven into breath-taking contemporary art works / rugs of great authenticity and aesthetic value.
