Size: 5.34×1.32m / 17’6″x4’4″

Technique: Handwoven. Kilim; flat-woven, slit-weave technique.

Material: Wool, and wool warps.

Colours and Design: This vintage extra large  kilim runner has superb vibrant colours. A rich red is the main feature colour along with include blue, beige, brown, orange, and dark green.
The design has a particularly appealing, quirky quality. It shows a medallion theme -the medallions seem to elongate towards one end!

Condition/Age: In good order. 
30+ Years old.

These Rugs are particularly interesting as they were made for the weavers own use rather than for commercial purposes. These are unique, one-of-a-kind tribal and village weavings.

This Qashqai Kilim consists of wool and is a handmade flat-weave, i.e. a rug without pile.  The weft coloured weft threads are woven in blocks which creates the pattern, and where two colours meet there is a tiny gap – hence the term slit weave.

One of the many benefits of this type of kilim is that because of the way it is constructed it is the same on both sides, meaning that it can be used either way up.

For use on a hard floor (wood, tiles, etc) or on carpet Underlay is recommended to prevent slippage.
