Title: Fine old Sarouk carpet
Size: 3.40×2.17m / 11’2″x7’2″ Thickness: 9mm
Origin: Sarouk, North-West Persia.
Technique: Hand-knotted, double weft construction.
Material: Wool pile, knotted onto cotton warps.
Colours and Design: This fine old Sarouk carpet has a wonderful mature colours. It features a soft terracotta main colour with numerous detail shades such as grey, light blue, brown and cream.
The design takes a classical, curvilinear format. It has a medallion design, and the rug is profusely decorated with floral motifs.
Condition/Age: Full thick pile. Approximately 30/40 years old.

The production of rugs from the towns and villages surrounding Arak (formerly Sultanabad) represent an important group in the historical development of Persian rugs.
Arak is located in west Persia, south-east of Hamadan. As an area, rugs and carpets from the Arak region can be quite variable with the coarsest from the town of Mahal and the finest from Sarouk.
