These handwoven Jute rugs are flat-woven pieces created in a variety of appealing geometric designs and colour-ways.
These versatile creations are handmade in India with natural all-plant fibres.
So if you are looking for an alternative, or an addition to your wool rugs and kilim collections these Jute rugs are ideal.
What is Jute?
Jute is traditionally known as a strong natural plant fibre obtained from the fibrous corchorus plant. The long fibres can be spun into robust thread and woven into a variety of textiles.
Like wool, Jute is 100% biodegradable and compostable.
Our Jute rugs have cotton foundations and like many flat-weaves can be used on either side!
Design and Colours
Jute is often known as the ‘golden fibre’ partly because of its versatility, but essentially because of its gorgeous golden colour and well as sheen.
Like wool, jute takes dye well, allowing our rug collections to feature everything from grounding neutrals to richer chromatic tones, as well as versatile colours that work beautifully in a range of interior schemes. Informal and easy softscaping can be achieved with a jute rug’s tribal-like natural vibe.
Discover a variety of geometric patterns that are balanced but casual. Choose from unique patterns with all over lattice designs, diamonds, compartmentalised sections, chevrons as well as stylised plants and flowers. Effective in many diverse spaces.
How to care for a Jute rug?
Jute rugs are low maintenance and generally only requiring regular vacuuming, perhaps once a week.
The colour and flat-weave texture should naturally camouflage dirt so these rugs are practical and stylish.
Jute as a fibre is extremely absorbent. Liquid spills can soak in quickly so it’s best to act fast – simply blot gently with absorbent kitchen towel / or a dry cloth. Once you have absorbed as much as possible, try and dry the area quickly perhaps with a hairdryer on a cool setting.
