Title: Pictorial old Belouch rug
Size: 1.83×1.04m / 6’0″x3’5″ Thickness: 7mm
Origin: Vicinity of Herat, Afghanistan.
Technique: Hand-knotted.
Material: Wool pile, knotted onto wool warps.
Colours and Design: This pictorial old Belouch rug has a main colour of dark blue. It has an interesting pictorial design depicting a portrait of a young woman surrounded with a plethora of geometric floral motifs and birds – perhaps it is a self portrait of the weaver woven as part of the dowry.
Condition/Age: This rug shows signs of age, most notably to the goat hair side cords. It is in the region of 40 years old.
