Title: Fine Afghan Suzani design Runner

Size: 2.56×0.80m / 8’5″x2’8″ 

Origin: Afghanistan.

Technique: Hand-knotted. It has beautifully finished fringes: plaited then wrapped with colourful yarn.

Material: Wool pile, cotton warp and weft. 

Colours and Design: Beige field with floral pattern and soft red border with large scale floral motifs. This is based on an Uzbek Suzani pattern.  

Condition/Age: New.

This Carpet is from a very small production in Afghanistan.

The design is loosely based upon that of an Uzbek “Suzani”. A Suzani is a type of tribal embroidered weaving made of cotton or silk needled onto a fabric base (of either cotton or silk). In yesteryear these were made as part of the dowry to be presented to the groom. Typically the patterns were floral. 

The pile is hand-knotted and made from hand-spun wool. The dyes are natural. It is a wonderful hard wearing quality that will stand the test of time.
