Title: Afghan Suzani design rug

Size: 1.50×1.01m / 4’11″x3’4″ Thickness: 9mm 

Origin: Afghanistan.

Technique: Hand-knotted. 

Material: Wool pile, knotted onto cotton warps and weft. 

Colours and Design: Cream ground with floral pattern with elaborate floral motifs in rust, ochre, blue and green. This is based on an Uzbek Suzani pattern.  

Condition/Age: New.

This rug is from Afghanistan.

The design is loosely based upon that of an Uzbek “Suzani”. A Suzani is a type of tribal embroidered weaving made of cotton or silk needled onto a fabric base (of either cotton or silk). In yesteryear these were made as part of the dowry to be presented to the groom. Typically the patterns were floral. 

The pile is hand-knotted and made from hand-spun wool. The dyes are natural. It is a wonderful hard wearing quality that will stand the test of time.
