Size: 3.33×2.36m / 10’11″x7’9″ Thickness: 6mm
Origin: Hereke, Turkey.
Technique: Hand-knotted.
Material: Wool pile knotted onto cotton warps and wefts.
Colours and Design: This old Hereke carpet has classic colours of navy blue with terracotta as well as cream, gold and green. The design is intricate and shows an all over floral theme.
Condition/Age: This wool Hereke carpet has full pile, but has some fading – mostly in the border areas. There is some staining to the fringes (see image 7). It is in the region of 30-40 years old. It has been recently washed and is ready for use!

The town of Hereke is located 60km east of Istanbul.
Hereke has a reputation for producing the finest silk rugs in the world.
It is one of the most important weaving centres of Turkey. In the Nineteenth Century the Sultan ordered the first looms in Hereke for the making of exceptional carpets for the palaces and other dignitaries.
Hereke Rugs are made by weavers of serious skill, each knot is predetermined by artists. Often there is a small inscription on one corner.
