Technique: Hand-knotted.
Material: Wool pile, with wool warps.
Colours and Design: This Gabbeh rug has a distinctive design of three medallions (a green central medallion flanked by terracotta medallions) on a plain camel colour field with plenty of variations of shade.
Condition/Age: Full pile with subtle signs of age. It is inscribed with numbers at one end, which is probably a date (see image 7). Date reads 1372 (1994).

Gabbeh Nomad Rugs are tribal rugs handmade on horizontal looms by tribeswomen (frequently by Qashqai or Luri) for the weavers own domestic use.
In many ways these are the most interesting of all tribal Rugs. The Gabbeh Nomad Rugs are unique, characterful and often quirky, one-of-a-kind rugs. These rugs have ancient patterns which can sometimes appear to be contemporary in style.
These Gabbeh Nomad Rugs have a handknotted wool pile, knotted onto either wool warps or warps consisting of animal hair (sometimes even cotton warps).
The nature of this type of Gabbeh Rug is highly individual, as a result knot density and pile thickness varies from rug to rug.
