Technique: Hand-knotted.

Material: Wool pile, cotton warps.

Colours and Design: This Afghan Oushak carpet has wonderful colours! These feature a main shade of grey – this is the field colour. The other shades include: beige, blue, yellow, green and rust.
The design shows a large scale floral all over theme with plenty of spacing around the design.  

Condition/Age: Slight abrash (colour variation) which can be seen in image 5. It is new.

Additional Information:

This Oushak carpet is from a very small production in Afghanistan where they are skilfully recreating ancient carpets in an outstanding quality and with exquisite colours suitable for modern colour schemes.

This production is inspired by late nineteenth century carpets from the town of Oushak in western Anatolia. These Oushaks were popular in Europe around this time and were often oversized. At the time the aniline dye colours of these carpets were rather garish, but by today, these colours have mellowed into beautiful subtle shades that have become desirable. 

As a result these Oushak carpets have long been a favourite of interior designers – for their soft colour schemes and gentle floral designs. The construction of these antique Oushak carpets was often quite coarse (with knotting some times less than 30 knots per square inch).  

The new production Afghan Oushak recreates the look of these antique carpets, with the additional benefits of brand new condition, stylish modern colour schemes as well as costing considerably less than an antique original with condition issues.

The pile is hand-knotted and made from hand-spun locally sourced wool, this is cut quite short to create an antique finish. The dyes are natural and made from vegetable dyes. These carpets are a wonderful quality that will be perfectly suitable for drawing room, dining room, or any location around the home.
